DescriptionThese are two woven coverlet panels in blue and white cotton and wool yarns. They were woven in an overshot weave structure in two loom widths. The geometric pattern, which consists of squares with circles at each corner, is called "Double Chariot Wheels" or "Church Windows." It's possible that they were never center seamed. The sides are selvedges, and the ends are cut with remnants of self fringe at the foot.
Label TextThese blue and white overshot coverlet panels were woven in the "Double Chariot Wheels" or "Church Windows" pattern. Family history suggests that the panels may have been made in Kent, Connecticut, by or for Comfort Chamberlain (1787-April 11, 1873). The narrow width of the panels documents the smaller size of many looms during this time.
