DescriptionThis is a woven coverlet in red and natural cotton and wool yarns in a double weave structure. It was woven in two loom widths and center seamed. It has self fringe at foot. The pattern is a geometric.
Label TextDouble cloth coverlets have two sets of warps and two sets of wefts throughout and consist of two distinct layers of cloth. These layers lay back to back and interchange with one another at given points according to the particular pattern being woven.
This example illustrates the commonest tie-up for coverlet weaving, one that pairs the strength of a natural or bleached cotton or linen warp with the bright colors of a dyed wool weft.
