Label TextThis print, depicting the month of March, is part of a set of twelve prints representing the months of the year. Themed sets, such as this were popular throughout the eighteenth-century in England and America. The set follows the conventions of the genre: featuring fashionable and seasonally dressed young women engaging in leisure activities that are appropriate for each month. In this print for March, a young woman walks along a river, attired in cape with fur trim, carrying a muff, and wearing a large flat straw hat, over a cap. There is a windmill in the distance and a small sail boat being carried by the strong March wind on the water. Trees bend with the obvious strength of the wind.
