DescriptionFlat inclined rim of moderate width with plain face and raised single-beaded moulding on underside at edge; short concave hammered booge to flat base with incised circle on face near booge.InscribedCrest of an unidentified family engraved on face of rim.
MarkingsTouch mark a rose with a fleur-de-lis above with "IOHN" above and "IUPE" below within curved reserves and with a small vestigial palm frond to either side on underside of rim (London Touch Plate IV, 878; Cotterell 2693). Secondary marks (1) a rose with crown above with "MADE IN" above and "LONDON" below within curved reserves and with a small vestigial palm frond to either side on underside of rim (Cotterell 2693), (2) quality mark "X" with crown above stamped on underside of rim between touch mark and principal secondary mark, and (3) label "SUPERFINE/HARD METAL" within an oblong scrolled cartouche on underside of rim opposite other marks (Cotterell 2693).
