DescriptionFragment of a bed curtain. The textile is printed in a design of exotic flowers, pineapples, and serrate leaves in madder reds, blue, purple and black on natural cotton ground. Blue details are added by means of "pencil blue". The printing is an offset vertical repeat. The textile has raw edges and a repaired tear. Not a full width.Label TextAt first glance this textile looks like an Indian chintz example, because the exotic flowers and leaves with serrate edges relate closely to Indian imported textiles. However, the regularity of the repeated details signals that it was printed using carved wood blocks. The indigo blue areas were hand painted using the technique of penciling.
