Label TextOver the past two hundred and thirty years, medals depicting Washington have been produced to commemorate everything about the man, from his virtues and accomplishments to his death and subsequent anniversaries.After a delay of 14 years, the Congressional medal, voted to honor Washington for successfully driving the British from Boston in 1776 was struck in France. With a true likeness based on the famous bust by Houdon on the obverse, the reverse bore a scene of the Siege of Boston executed by Pierre Simon Du Vivier, the Paris Mint's top die cutter.
