DescriptionChild's gown of white cotton with whitework needlework in a meandering floral design with areas of zig-zag decoration. Wide squared neckline trimmed with needleworked flat collars with serrated edges and a drawstring for fit. Short ungathered sleeves, edged with serrated trim. Very high waist, with embroidered inset waistband backed with pink cotton showing through the semisheer fabric; drawstrings above and below band adjust garment fit. Long skirt, very slightly gathered, ends in white floral needlework with net insertions. Gown opens entirely down the back, the serrated edges of the opening finished in needle lace loops. Embroidery stitches consist of satin, French and bullion knots, stem, buttonhole over a thread to form needle lace, and net insertion. Gown is at right in the photograph group of three.
