DescriptionThis is a rectangular pillowcase of white plain-woven linen, marked in brown silk cross stitches: "Katherine Hubbell / 13 / 1827." The hems measure 1/8" wide. The side and bottom seaming apears to have been done by turning edges inside and overcasting from the outside, a technique typically used when butting selvages together. The sewing thread appears to be a mix of mostly linen with some stray cotton fibers.Label TextThe owner of this pillowcase stitched her full name, the number of the set (13), and the date 1827 using brown silk cross stitches. White bed linens were frequently marked to ensure that the sets were reconstituted following laundry.
