Shown with reproduction kerchief and an eighteenth-century quilted petticoat

This woman's gown was once in the collection of the world renowned illustrator and collector Tasha Tudor. Dating around 1780, the English gown is constructed of cream-color silk satin patterned with tiny salmon and green flower sprigs against a striped ground. Typical of the period, the bodice has a very low rounded neckline that would have been filled in with a sheer neckerchief. The full skirt can be worn down or drawn up by means of attached tapes.

ProvenanceFrom the collection of Tasha Tudor.
