DescriptionThis is a braided rug in green, red, and black wool. It is in a pinwheel design that gives the optical illusion that it is pieced together. Actually the construction is in one long continuous coil technique.Label TextProviding warmth, floor protection, color, and texture to homes, the braided rug was a staple of many early American interiors. The distinctive pinwheel design of this rug gives the optical illusion that it is pieced together, but actually the construction is one long continuous coil technique. The unusual pattern was probably developed by the maker, Annette “Nettie” Abbott Nelson, who was described as a robust, capable, and ingenious woman. With her husband and eight children, she operated a prosperous dairy farm in eastern Vermont.
