DescriptionMug: Cylindrical mug with banding at base and below rim; single loop handle; covered allover in a deep cobalt-blue glaze and painted in white on the exterior chinoiserie scene in the bleu persan or blew de Nevers style mimicking late Ming porcelain.Label TextThe early Chinese decoration of a squatting figure in a landscape was popular on English delft of the last three decades of the seventeenth century. It is also the most common pattern found in white on a blue ground and appears on vessels of many forms, including a potting pot in the CWF collection (accession 1958-17) and one at Winterthur.
