DescriptionThis is a rectangular red and white worsted flag of the City of London. It has a 1/3’4” casing at hoist side, ½” hem at fly side, and selvages at top and bottom. The design consists of an approximately 6” wide red cross of St. George against a white background. In the top left quadrant is a reverse appliqued red sword (with blade facing upwards) outlined in black. There is a cotton cord in the casing and a wooden toggle at the end of the cord to hold it in place.
ProvenanceThe flag of the City of London was presented to CWF by Sir Denys Lowson, Lord Mayor of London, on September 14, 1951. It was stored in the Archives Records Department until 2017, when it was transferred to the Collections Department.
