DescriptionShallow patty pan with gadroon rim, decorated in underglaze blue on the exterior with three flower sprigs and on the interior with a cell and fish roe border interrupted by crosshatched conjoined squares and geometric panels with single flower blossoms; the well painted with a central scene of a flower basket amidst a rocky landscape with flowers and a fence.
Label TextAlthough rare above ground survivals, patty pans such as this example turn up archaeologically and in numerous inventories and newspaper advertisements in 18th century American contexts.
