Description2024-76,1 Plate: circular plate with foot ring; the well painted with a horizontal lozenge-shaped basket filled with green, orange, blue and red flowers, all within a single green-black band; the rim painted with a border of leafy blossoms on a black-dotted and green-washed ground, evenly interrupted by four leaf-shaped reserves with flowers painted red and green and outlined in black; the border within double-concentric lines at the interior edge and a single band at the outer edge; the underside painted in underglaze blue with a stylized leaf within two concentric circles; the underside also wheel-engraved with “N: 99 · / I” (Roman numeral 1).

2024-76,2 Plate: circular plate with foot ring: the well painted with a censor-shaped basket with a tall handle tied with a bow, the body of the basket decorated with cross-hatching and a red and green flower cluster within a central circular reserve flanked by two yellow flowers; the basket filled with leafy green, yellow, purple, blue and orange flowers; the border the same pattern as (1) the underside painted in underglaze blue with a stylized leaf within two concentric circles; the underside also wheel-engraved with “N: 99 · / I” (Roman numeral 1); some gold fills to the rim.

2024-76,3 Plate: circular plate with foot ring; the well painted with an elongated hexagonal basket with a tall handle tied with a bow; the body of the basket decorated with a vertical herringbone pattern painted in black, green and blue; the basket filled with flowers painted in red, orange, yellow, green and blue; the border the same pattern as (1); the reverse painted in underglaze blue with a stylized leaf with two concentric circles of blue; the underside wheel engraved with “N: 99 · / I” (Roman numeral 1); some gold fills to the edge of the rim.

2024-76,4 Plate: circular plate with foot ring; the well painted with a basket similar to (3); the border the same pattern as (1); the reverse painted in underglaze blue with a stylized leaf within two concentric circles; the underside with wheel-engraved “N: 99 · / I” (Roman numeral 1) within the underglaze blue circles; some gold fills to the edge of the rim.

ProvenanceEach bearing a wheel-engraved Palace Number, these plates are listed in the 1779 inventory of the Dresden Palace. They were sold by Rudolph Lepke's Kunst-Auctions-Haus, December 7-8, 1919, in the sale “Porzellane und Waffen aus den Kgl. Sächsischen Sammlungen” in Dresden and subsequently acquired by Catharine Fitch Tucker [February 28, 1879-August 22, 1970] who gifted the pieces to her nephew, Edward Bolton (Teddy) Tucker, MBE [May 8, 1929-June 9, 2014], then they descended to his daughter Wendy Susan Tucker who subsequently gifted them to the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation in 2024.
