DescriptionSilver dish cross based aroundon a circular spirit lamp capped by a moulded-edge cover, and set with a swivel ring from which radiate four square arms capped by applied bosses. Each arm has a border engraved sliding socket topped by a slipper-shaped dish rest and set above a scroll with a patera-shaped foot.
Label TextFew American silver dish crosses survive. This example was owned by the Richmond merchant James Brown, Sr. It descended in his family to the twenty-first century and is recorded in various period documents.
InscribedEngraved "B" in sprigged script on top of one arm near end.
MarkingsMarked with a semi-script "I•McMullin" in relief within a rectangle on the bottom of each arm.
