DescriptionCircular pewter plate with a concave rim edged by a single bead, with a hammered and booged well surrounded by an incised circle.Label TextThough American pewtersmiths produced plates of this size in large numbers, they couldn't meet the demand. To fill the void, English makers like Nathan Barber exported large quantities of pewter wares to America, and this plate may have been amongst those.
MarkingsNATHANIEL and BARBER in ribbons above and below a coat of arms, all in relief within a shaped cartouche (Cotterell 250). Also, SNOWHILL above LONDON in relief within a cartouche, and four "hallmark" in relief within various shapes. All marks are worn and incomplete.
