DescriptionRound-bodied mug with small foot ring and loop handle. White tin glaze decorated with speckled manganese and within a rectangular reserve the inscription "BE NOT DRUNKE."
Label TextThe body of this mug is inscribed "BE NOT DRVNKE." A mug identical in form, size, and decoration, except for the inscription, is in the British Museum. Its inscription reads "Drink and Wellcome Sur". Ivor Noel Hume illustrates the similarity in shape and size between this caudle cup and two excavated at the Pickleherring pottery site in Southwark, London.
Inscribed"BE NOT DRUNKE" painted around the waist of the cup.
