DescriptionMolded, soft-paste porcelain figure of an owl. The body of the owl has been molded seperately from the feet and rounded base. No color has been applied.
Label TextThe first English porcelain was made near London at Chelsea circa 1745. Early production at the factory included both tableware and a wide range of ornamental figures. The stark, undecorated body of this owl is similar to fashionable Chinese blanc de chine white porcelains, but the realistic rendering is decidedly western in feeling. Although the bird is shown at rest, the life-like modeling creates a dramatic sense of silent watchfulness.
