DescriptionPlate with round well, regular serpentine-cut rim, and incised foot ring. Bluish tin glaze decorated in blue; in the well, a Chinese peony, bamboo, and a gnarled root; on the rim, two large and two small flower sprays.Label TextA privately owned plate with the same decoration, but more crudely painted, is dated 1764. Several plates in the Bristol Museum have variations on this pattern. A plate in the Colonial Williamsburg collection is identical in form, including the unusual shape of the rim, but has typical Bristol decoration (accession 1954-919).
