DescriptionWoman's gown with fitted bodice and "English back", to be worn with stomacher or kerchief; undecorated fold-robings extending to below normal waistline; skirt open, unlined and untrimmed; hem faced with wide band of purple silk sarcenet. Dress to be worn with small hoops. The textile is silk, double faced taffeta weave; in purple-blue and silver white the design shows undulating lace-like bands with semi-naturalistic flowers, thorny stems, and leaves. Selvedge: 1/4" with red/white stripes.Construction History:
1. 1760-1770 initial construction.
2. Alteration at the top of shoulders and upper back, altered from sack-back; Dates Unknown.
3. Original sleeve trims missing, cuffs in file photographs are not contemporary.
