DescriptionPetticoat matching a sack-back gown of silk brocaded with silver gilt. Petticoat is stitched onto a twill tape that ties around the waist. Petticoat is made to be worn with side hoops, with fullness concentrated at the hips with pleats. Pocket slits 9" deep create openings at the side seams, with their edges faced with cream silk. The front and back of the petticoat is unpleated. The petticoat has a large section missing at the center back, replaced with a piece of cream silk 16" long. The center back seam has been left open with the raw edges of the silk at the opening. Photographed under matching gown.1780-1790
