DescriptionMan's white wool broadcloth suit coat embroidered with silver threads, purl and sequins. Coat has small collar 1 3/4" wide, intended to be turned down to reveal embroidered detail. Front is slightly curved and buttoned with ten embroidered self-fabric covered buttons. Buttonholes embellished with silver embroidery in pattern of undulating sprigs arranged horizontally and emanating from each cut-open buttonhole. Sleeves are slim and curved over elbows, ending in untrimmed folded cuffs. Shaped pocket flaps are untrimmed, covering two functional linen pockets buttoned with an inner flap positioned under the outer flap. Coat back has center vent at skirt, and side pleats trimmed with buttons. Coat lined with white twill glazed wool, probably called shalloon. Sleeves lined with cotton/linen napped twill. Front lining has a one-inch flap behind the buttonholes to prevent seeing through them when buttoned. Edges and hems of coat are cut and left raw; broadcloth not hemmed.Exhibition(s)
