DescriptionBaluster back side chair; maple rear stiles turned with rings, balusters, incised lines, and ball finials; arched and bowed maple crest rail and flat bowed ash bottom slat tenoned into stiles; five ash spindles round tenoned into crest rail and bottom slat; center spindle has double baluster and ring turnings flattened front and back, remaining four spindles have single baluster turning with incised lines and double ring at base; maple forn legs plain turned; ash side stretchers plain turned; 2 front and 1 rear ash stretchers turned with swelled centers and incised lines; plain turned ash seat rails round tenoned into legs and stiles and covered with woven oak splints. Maple legs and slats, hickory stretchers and spindles.ProvenancePurchased for CWF by Susan Higginson Nash in 1936 from J.E. Brockwell, a well-known dealer in Southern decorative arts
