DescriptionSplat back armchair: Concave yoke center top of crest flanked by flat elements curving outward to form corners of crest and continuing downward to form stiles that flare outward from top to bottom and curve inward from front to back; vase-shaped splat; side rails flare inward from front to back; quarter circle downward curve to bottom of side rails and front rail at each end; downward curving arms ending in large rounded volute; arms supported by vase-shaped, turned supports with a series of rings above and below in the area between the arm and seat, and continuing downward to form rounded corner at area of seat rails and continuing downward to form cabriole legs terminating in pad feet on a disc; back legs flare to rear and all corners chamfered in area between seat and stretchers; blocked and turned side rails; bulbous shaped medial stretcher and back stretcher; construction note: seat made without corner blocks.1730-1770
