DescriptionMan's coat of light blue streaked silk taffeta (possibly called lustring or lutestring). Coat is fashioned with narrow standup collar, two-piece sleeves with 4" cuffs, 4" pocket flaps, and back-vented and side-pleated skirt. Eleven dark, sequined buttons trim the front, which curves away toward the hem. Three buttons trim each pocket, with worked but non-functional buttonholes. Two front hooks and eyes. Front and skirt linings of yellow silk tabby; balance of coat lined with tabby natural linen.Construction History:

2. Hooks and eyes sewn in before new yellow lining replacement attached, sometime in the 18th century probably.
Label TextPastel colors and glittery stones, seen in this coat, were considered manly and appropriate for dressy occasions.
