Descriptionbasting, stuffing, ragout spoonLabel TextFlatware, especially spoons and forks, were among the less successful classes of fused silverplate. Their construction was by necessity clumsy in comparison with their sterling equivalents, which were made in one piece; and daily use could soon expose the underlying copper at the edges and points of wear, perhaps considered prejudicial to the taste of food. This pair of spoons was fashioned in the customary manner.
The handle was stamped in upper and lower halves, hard soldered together around the edges, the interior filled with soft solder through the bowl end, and then soldered to the bowl, with the lower half extending onto the underside of the bowl in a shell drop for added strength and decorative effect.
