DescriptionCoat, part of a suit of livery consisting of green broadcloth coat and cream color waistcoat and breeches. Coat is trimmed with silk uncut velvet livery lace in a pattern with lion rampant. Coat has high standing collar, long cuffed sleeves, multicolor thread buttons trimming front opening (buttons non-functional), and pocket flaps used as trimming, without pockets beneath; lined with cream twill worsted "shalloon" and cotton; pockets reached through back vent.Markings"S" hand stitched on coat
ProvenanceVendor states that suit was found in a locked cedar chest in Westport, Connecticut, along with 1860s newspapers.
