DescriptionSleeveless waistcoat to livery suit. Waistcoat has high standing collar, front hook and eye fastening, and functional pockets. Heavily trimmed with wide woven livery lace in design of lions in crest. Silk frog trimming on both sides of front. Cream linen back has tape ties.Construction History:
1. 1810-1850: Initial construction
2. April 4, 1958: Work by Ernest LoNano. Resewed braid from back of coat down front of waistcoat. Removed braid on both sides of pocket flaps and resewed down left side. Also buttonholes -- two strips of linen lining to cover buttonholes.
Label TextFrank Moss Bennett (1874-1952) was a history painter who owned a collection of antique and reproduction costumes to use as props. Some of the collection is now in the Museum of London. This costume, plus thirty-one others, were purchased from Bennett's daughter upon his death.
