Credit LineMuseum Purchase
Object number1989-175
DescriptionSquare tile with canted sides. Whitish tin glaze decorated in black under a green wash with a copperplate transfer print of a large classical urn; straight rope border of bellflowers with small rosettes at the corners.
Label TextIt has been suggested that Richard Abbey, who apprenticed under John Sadler, printed this tile, as the border is similar to those on Abbey's theatrical tiles. Two other recorded tiles with black and green classical vases of different shapes have the same border and, therefore, are presumably from the same series.
