DescriptionWoman's apron of linen woven in plain (tabby) weave in small blue and white checks. Apron is styled with narrow shoulder straps, a raised waistline with gathered insert at center bust, drawstrings for fit at front and back neckline, and open down center back, fastening with two tied cords. Unlined, hemmed with 1/4" hems all around. At the front, the appearance of a raised waistline is created by a horizontal tuck in the linen.MarkingsOn paper tag in modern handwriting: "Apron Worn by Mrs. Samuel Barker (nee Betsey Rogers) married in 1783" and on reverse "Presented by Mrs. Laurance Merrill(?) 210 Old Dominion Blvd McLean, Virginia."
