DescriptionOne of a pair of pink kid leather slip-on shoes with one-inch wooden heels, trimmed with pink silk bows on top of vamp. Linen and leather linings. Shoes are made as "straights."Construction History:
1.1820: Initial Construction
ProvenanceThe shoes were said to have been worn by Frances Courtenay Norton at her marriage to John Baylor, November, 18, 1778. A parallel family tradition assigns the shoes to Eleanor Bowles Gooch (d. 1783), who married Warner Lewis of Gloucester, Virginia, in 1746. The 1820s date of the shoes indicates that neither tradition was correct, and that the shoes were worn by a later descendant.
