DescriptionWoman's long-sleeved jacket of blue silk brocaded with colored silks and metal threads, in large floral pattern with weft-float ground pattern. Jacket is styled to be laced at the front for wear with a kerchief or narrow stomacher. Bodice front has interior boned lacing strips to just below the waist, ending in squared points deep below the waist at front. Back bodice has deep point with pleated peplum-type skirts. Upper back neckline is open in a small "v", (probably originally sewn up at least part way). Long, tight sleeves are shaped to curve over the elbows, ending in tight wrist openings that are fastened shut with hooks and eyes, but trimmed with metallic braid and buttons to give the effect of a buttoned placket. Main portion of bodice and sleeves are fully lined with coarse brown linen; peplum skirts and center front facings are lined with coral plain-woven silk. Linings brought out to edges and finished to give the effect of top-stitching. (French: point a rabattre sous la main.) Center back has a pair of heavy bones extending to below the waist. Center front was bones missing on the right side. The garment is considerably pieced throughout, indicating later remaking from another item of clothing.
