DescriptionSerpentine cresting rail with centered shell, bold terminals, carved in scrolls on upper side; interlaced, pierced splat without carving; stiles rounded at back, flat at front, and taper outward slightly from top to bottom; bold, serpentine shaped arms each terminating in four deeply carved knuckles and at the front side only in a volute; arm supports of serpentine shape hollowed at front and terminate in a half-cylinder over seat rail; two screws the period of the chair secure the arm supports from the inside; seat rail straight at front and back, sides angle inward from front to back; side rails mortised through back legs; four modern triangular corner blocks secured with nails; cabriole front legs with one raised shell on each knee terminate in claw-and-ball feet; back legs flare to rear and chamfered on all corners.1760-1775
