DescriptionWindsor bow-back armchair with seven turned spindles and a horseshoe-shaped backrest and arms with knuckle terminals, a saddle seat below, on ring and baluster turned legs joined by side and medial stretchers.

This Windsor chair was part of the furniture of the house built about 1803 at Plymouth, Mass., by Adoniram Judson, whose son, bearing the same name, was the first American foreign missionary. He sailed for India in 1812. His sister, Abigail Brown Judson, survived the rest of the family, and died in 1884, at the age of 93, when the house was sold and its contents distributed. The house is still standing, though materially altered.
ProvenancePerhaps acquired by Adoniram Judson Sr. as furnishings for house built in Plymouth, Ma., in 1803. To son, Adoniram Judson (1788-1834). To sister, Abigail Brown Judson who died on January 25, 1884 at the age of 93. To nephew, Edward Judson (1844-1914). To Mr. John D. Rockefeller Jr., December 1915.
