DescriptionThis is a length of a silk-face textile woven with 3 1/4"-wide shaded blue and white stripes alternating against solid yellow 5-inch wide stripes in ribbed tabby weave with heavier natural linen wefts. There are two blue stripes along the length of the textile. The textile is finished in a moired (watered) effect. One selvage is present, and yellow silk sewing threads remain along the selvage from previously being stitched together into a wide curtain. Some holes and tears are evident. Both ends are turned up but not hemmed, with raw edges.Label TextThis type of textile was most often used as a furnishing textile in an elegant setting. In fact, this piece and a matching panel were once stitched together to form a large curtain for a window or tall bedstead. Evidence still remains of yellow silk sewing threads along one of the edges.
