DescriptionWhite neck stock made with semi-sheer cotton gathered to two linen tabs. One tab has four buttonholes for use with a removable stock buckle. Other tab is tapered and rounded at ends. Cotton material consists of about 62 inches of fullness gathered into 3-inch tabs.Label TextThis stock is beautifully constructed from a lavish amount of material--62 inches of fine semisheer cotton gathered into the three-inch wide linen tabs that fastened at the back of the neck. The stock has a history of being worn by John Knight (d. 1850) of Wolverley, England, at his wedding. It is not known whether it was his first marriage to Helen Charlotte Hope in 1795 or his second to Jane Elizabeth Winn in 1811.
ProvenanceAccording to paper tag, the stock is said to have been owned by John Knight: "John Knight of Wolverly, Lea Castle, Simonsbath/ Exmoor. Born 1765--died in Rome 1850/ Cookley/ First worn at his Wedding."
