DescriptionLadder back child's side chair with round legs and stiles; feet taper slightly below stretchers; ball finials on tops of stiles; two rounded shaped horizontal slats between stiles; splint woven seat; round front, rear, and side stretchers.
Label TextWith a shared history at Bowling Green Farm and turned finials similar to those on the larger chair (2011-117), this child’s chair was probably made by the same local turner or chairmaker in Caroline County, Virginia. Without the history of descent in the Hoomes, Maury, and White families of Bowning Green Farm, it would have been difficult to know where these rather simple turned chairs were made or used.
ProvenanceDescended in the Hoomes, Maury, and White families of Bowling Green Farm in Bowling Green, Virginia.
