DescriptionA pair of mitts or fingerless gloves worn by an infant. These mitts are made from a very fine Marseille or mock quilted fabric. A thumb is inserter into the mitt and are both entirely unlined.Label TextFingerless gloves or mitts were very common for infants and very young children. This pair belong to Joshua Frye of Madison County, Virginia. Surviving with the mitts is his pleated tunic that he wore in his 1850s portrait.
