DescriptionMan's sleeveless and collarless waistcoat of white plain-woven cotton, embroidered with silk chain and straight stitches down fronts, hems, and on pocket flaps in an undulating vine from which spring flowers and leaves. Center front bottoms cut away to form inverted V. Waistcoat buttoned down front with 12 fabric covered embroidered buttons and buttonholes (of which only 3 retain their original inner wooden cores). Shaped, pointed pocket flaps cover functional linen pockets. Waistcoat back constructed of white cotton, with center-back vent. Lined throughout with white plain-woven linen. Section of embroidery has been removed at top of neck, suggesting that the pre-embroidered shape was too long for the wearer.ProvenanceEx. Coll. Doris Langley Moore (1902-1989)
