DescriptionThis is a double length blanket twill-woven from heavy wool. The colors of the creamy-white wool contrasting with dark-blue and rose-red stripes and bands form a bold windowpane pattern. The blanket is woven in two panels, seamed down the center with wool thread. The ends are finished in light red silk blanket stitching, probably a later repair. The initials "A M" are embroidered in soft red wool near the end.Label TextBlankets were necessary accompaniments to bed chambers in an era before central heating. This double-length blanket (at 158 inches long) would have added extra warmth and color to the home in which it was used. The unidentified owner marked her initials, "A.M." near the top.

ProvenanceThe vendor, Thomas Kennedy of "Antiques at Woodlawn" identifies the blanket as being from Pennsylvania.
