DescriptionGlobular pot with short molded foot ring and molded crabstock handle and spout. Cover almost flat with restored knop. Bluish-green tin glaze on stoneware body decorated in polychrome with a Chinese scene including a diamond-roofed pagoda and sponged trees. Similar motif on cover.Label TextAbout half of the small group of surviving tin-glazed teapots have a stoneware body, as does this example. Many of these are in forms commonly found in salt-glazed stoneware and lead-glazed earthenware. The most distinctive are those with crabstock handles and spouts; one dated 1756 is the only recorded dated piece of tin-glazed stoneware.
