DescriptionSquat baluster-shaped pot with flared rim, short foot ring, S-shaped tubular spout, and two loop handles with scroll base terminals. Domed cover with pointed mushroom knop. White tin glaze decorated in blue with a European landscape scene including a seated man, two other men talking, a castle, and sponged trees and bushed. Designs repeated on cover.Label TextPeasants in rural landscapes painted in blue in the Dutch style began to appear on English delft in the first quarter of the eighteenth century. A large dish with a genre scene of this type is dated 1707 (CWF accesion 1961-136). A similarly decorated London posset pot, but with scroll handles, is in the Ashmolean Museum. A privately owned London shaped bowl also has similar decoration.
