DescriptionShallow-bowled charger with wide, angled rim and foot ring. Thin bluish tin-glaze wash on the back; white tin glaze on the front decorated with full-length portrait of William III, standing in a hall, crowned and holding a large flower. Outlining in manganese, columns and details in yellow-orange, blue wash, and two manganese bands inside the rim.Label TextThis is one of a group of chargers depicting William and Mary standing outdoors or William alone standing either outdoors or beneath arches. On the examples with the two monarchs together, William wears the same type of robe as here, but has nothing in his hands. This example, with a monarch holding a flower, is unusual. On the examples where William stands alone, he wears armor and holds a sword or he wears armor and ermine and holds an orb and a scepter.
