DescriptionOne of a pair of narrow single sleeve ruffles. Plain-woven linen needleworked with white linen. Design consists of large-scale scrolling flowers with shadow work and drawn work fillings. Edge scalloped with asymmetrical scrolls. Gathered to narrow twill tape with buttonholes worked into tape for buttoning ruffle to buttons stitched into the gown sleeve. Stitches: shadow darning, chain stitch, buttonhole stitch, drawn work. Thread count 112 x 112.Construction History:
1. 1750-1765: Initial Construction
2. At some point they were possibly cut down from a larger size
3. Several small voids were mended before 1985
