DescriptionBlack walnut side chair with "square" back with slightly flaring stiles rounded on back. Crest rail flat with raised center section over two straight, slightly tapered balusters flanking a pierced splat flared at top with two tear-drop shaped piercings, wide at center with diamond shape piercing, and divided into three vertical tapered balusters in lower half. Balusters and splat elements tenoned into rectangular stay rail. All back members including stiles, rails, splat, and balusters beaded on edges. Trapezoidal seat with upholstered yellow pine slip seat. Seat rails and front corners of front legs beaded. Straight front legs, tapered, square in cross section. Rear legs taper and rake back slightly, square in cross section. Side, medial, and rear stretchers rectangular in cross section. Rear stretcher higher than side and medial stretchers.1700-1720
