DescriptionThis rectangular fragment of fawn lampas has a brocaded design of roses, lilies, and other flowers sprouting from small islands of grass, flowers, and berries. The brocade is over a self-figured design of a meandering ribbon patterned with crosshatching, lines and dots, and feathery leaves. The reverse is dark green and held in a twill weave. The top and bottom edges are pressed to the back and whip stitched down. The left and right edges are selvedges. The selvedge is figured with 30 warps floating over sections of four wefts, creating horizontal stripes. The green wefts seen on the reverse of the fabric are only visible on the edge.Label TextIn the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, revival styles abounded. Interior decorators, such as Lenygon & Morant, stocked antique fabric samples, and reproduced or adapted those fabrics for use in their decorating and upholstery.
