DescriptionThis is a rectangular fragment of fawn satin with a baroque design of green stems with pink and blue flowers. There is a large pink flower at the center, flanked by two small ones. Above these are two large blue flowers. All of them grow from a symmetrical, loose hatching of green stems and leaves. The top and bottom edges are raw. The left and right edges are selvedges. The selvedge is ¼” wide and consists of 10 warps of plain weave. There are two unfaded bands across the width where there once was applied decoration, and one vertical band from the top center to the horizontal bands. The left and right edges are also unfaded 1 1/8” wide.Label TextThis silk fragment is part of a large collection of textiles used as decorator samples by the firm Lenygon & Morant. At different points during its history, the company served as interior decorators for King George VI of England and the White House.
ProvenanceThis is one of a large collection of "decorator samples" from the firm of MORANT & COMPANY, obtained by Morant & Co., 91 New Bond Street, London, before 1930. The firm, later known as LENYGON & MORANT, was transferred to New York about 1930.
