DescriptionWhite cap of sheer plain-woven cotton embroidered in chain stitches with evenly-spaced dots and floral sprigs. The wide band around the face is gathered into narrow band edged with narrow lace; this wide gathered band is attached to another gathered band, using lace as joining insertion running down center back. Self-fabric ties are edged with lace. Lace consists of cotton mesh darned in decorative patterns with heavier linen thread.ProvenanceFound in 1987 in the costume room of the First Congregational Church, Danbury, Ct., where an active theater group had been using the room; sold in church bazaar in November of 1987.
