DescriptionA) Baby carrier or mantle made of striped red and green worsted wool, patterned with brocaded isolated floral sprigs and floral stripes of supplementary weft floats. Trimmed with bobbin lace, net, and ribbon bows. Semi-circular shape for child's head. Wrap- around torso with 3 pairs of linen tapes for tying to child. Skirt section gathered into linen tape waistband. Backed with floral pattern painted silk. B) Stomacher piece intended to be pinned in place, made of worsted backed with painted silk, and trimmed with lace net and ribbons.
Label TextThis baby carrier is trimmed with ribbons and lace. It was made to show off the infant in style for a public event, such as a christening or other presentation. The carrier was wrapped and tied around the baby’s body and the stomacher fastened in place over the ties.
