DescriptionWoman's cap of thin white cotton with gathered puffy crown and ruffle around the face. Two short ties or lappets extend down from either side; they are constructed with center drawstrings that are intended to form ruffles under the chin when tied. Cut or torn hole in crown. No lining.Label TextThis cap was worn by a Quaker woman from the Philadelphia Pennock family. The style can be related to the cap worn by Peggy Wilson in 1791, when she was painted by Charles Willson Peale (see the portrait in Colonial Williamsburg Foundation's Collections, Accession Number 2014-46).
